The kindling is kiln dried spruce and Scots pine, under 12% moisture, so it catches from a single firelighter and has your logs going in minutes. The firelighters are natural wood wool dipped in wax: no chemicals, no smell, and each one burns for around eight minutes, long enough to get the kindling and logs properly caught.

One firelighter, a handful of kindling, two or three logs on top, vents open. That’s the whole routine, and there’s enough in this box for around 40 to 50 fires. Order by 2pm Monday to Friday and it’s with you the next working day, free to most of the UK. Add it to a log order and it all arrives together.

Keep the box somewhere dry: a garage, porch, shed or next to the stove. The kindling nets breathe and the firelighters keep indefinitely as long as they stay dry.

One firelighter on the grate, a loose handful of kindling over it, two or three logs on top.
Air vents fully open until the logs are well caught, then close down to taste.
If it won’t catch, it’s nearly always too much log and not enough air; lift the logs off and let the kindling get going first.
