DELIVERY
DELIVERY
All Hornbeam crates are delivered next working day when ordered before 12pm. Tracking is sent once your pallet arrives at the local hub (usually around 10pm), and you’ll receive an ETA from there.
Delivered on an 18-tonne tail-lift vehicle (same size as a bin lorry). The crate is securely wrapped and shower-resistant.
We can only guarantee kerbside drop-off, but drivers are friendly and will usually try their best to get the pallet where you want it as long as access and ground conditions allow.
– Hard, flat ground for the pallet truck
– No steep slopes, gravel, or soft surfaces
– Road access suitable for an 18t vehicle
Deliveries run 8am–6pm, Monday–Friday. For full details on access requirements, vehicles and tracking, see our delivery information.
DESCRIPTION
Our kiln-dried Hornbeam logs provide exceptionally long-lasting heat with a moisture content below 20%. Hornbeam is one of the densest hardwoods available, known for slow, controlled burning, extremely high heat output and outstanding ember retention. It is ideal for log burners, multi-fuel stoves and situations where sustained heat over long periods is required. The Ready to Burn moisture level ensures clean, efficient performance in modern appliances.
Each crate is tightly hand-stacked to reduce air gaps and maximise usable firewood. A full crate is roughly equivalent to 1.8m³ of loose-filled logs, offering excellent value for high-use burners. Hornbeam sits above Oak in density and burn duration, and the wood-burning chart shows how it compares with other hardwood species. Our full crate rangeincludes alternative options depending on whether you prefer faster flame or longer burn times.
Every crate contains 100% Hornbeam hardwood, with no mixing. Kiln drying ensures a hotter, cleaner burn, improved stove efficiency and reduced soot build-up compared to higher-moisture logs. Before dispatch, each crate is covered with a shower-resistant top sheet and fully shrink-wrapped for protection during transit. Further details can be found in the delivery information.

Unlike softer woods that burn fast and fade quickly, hornbeam offers a satisfying balance — easy to light once started, then settles into a strong, long-lasting flame.
With its dense grain and low moisture content, hornbeam delivers a stable, even burn — ideal for maintaining comfortable indoor temperatures without constant refuelling.
Hornbeam is often chosen by people who burn daily during winter. It’s consistent, dependable and produces embers that hold heat, making stove management simple and predictable.
Kiln-drying brings the moisture content below 20%, which means less smoke, cleaner glass, and lower soot buildup — protecting both your stove and your chimney over time.
Is Hornbeam a good wood for log burners?
Yes — hornbeam is an excellent hardwood for log burners. It burns hot, produces long-lasting embers, and works especially well in modern stoves thanks to its dense structure and low moisture content when kiln-dried.
How long does hornbeam wood last?
Hornbeam burns longer than softer woods like birch and produces a steady heat. It doesn't burn quite as long as oak, but still delivers extended burn times with strong embers that hold heat well.
Is oak the best firewood for long burns?
Oak is known for having one of the longest burn times of any hardwood. However, hornbeam is often seen as a strong alternative — it lights slightly easier and still gives a long, powerful burn with good ember retention.
Is hornbeam better than oak?
It depends on preference. Oak generally burns the longest, while hornbeam offers a great balance of long burn time, strong heat output, and easier ignition. Many regular stove users choose hornbeam for its intensity and reliability.
Is hornbeam right for my log burner?
Most modern wood-burning stoves handle hornbeam very well. Its dense structure and low moisture content make it suitable for consistent heating. If you use your burner regularly in winter, hornbeam is a strong, dependable choice.
How are log crates delivered, and how fast is delivery?
Crates are delivered on a pallet via tail-lift lorry. Although classed as kerbside delivery, drivers will usually place the crate where you want it if access is clear and flat. Orders placed before the daily cut-off are dispatched the same working day, and delivery is typically next working day from dispatch.
