DELIVERY
DELIVERY
All maxi bags are delivered next working day when ordered before 2pm.
Maxi bags are shipped via DHL and delivered on a standard courier van (Ford Transit / Mercedes Sprinter size). Once dispatched, you’ll receive tracking from DHL, usually on the day of delivery, with a 1-hour delivery window. We also send your tracking details ourselves, typically in the evening (around 4pm) once the parcel has entered the DHL network.
Each woven sack of logs is packed inside a strong double-wall cardboard box, sealed for transit so it can move safely through the courier network. The outer box is shower-resistant. Even if the box gets damaged, the logs remain protected inside the woven sack.
If you are not home, delivery will only be made if you have selected a safe place or neighbour via the DHL tracking link. These options can be set once tracking is received, just like a standard courier delivery. If no option is selected and delivery cannot be made, the parcel will be reattempted.
Deliveries operate Monday–Friday. Weekend delivery can occasionally happen (especially for Friday dispatches), but is not guaranteed.
Please note:
Orders of multiple maxi bags may arrive separately, sometimes on different vans, and at different times throughout the day. This is normal for courier deliveries and helps avoid additional delivery charges.
DESCRIPTION
Our kiln-dried hornbeam logs in 60L maxi bags are designed for maximum heat output and long burn times, rather than quick lighting. Supplied pre-cut, properly dried and ready to burn, they arrive at your door in a practical woven sack — ideal for customers who want dense hardwood without committing to a full crate.
Hornbeam is an exceptionally dense hardwood, known for its slow, controlled burn and very high heat retention. With a moisture content below 20%, these logs burn cleanly and efficiently once established, producing strong embers and sustained warmth. They are best suited to wood burners and multi-fuel stoves where a solid kindling base is already in place and longer burn times are preferred.
Delivered via DHL in a compact, manageable format, maxi bags are ideal for topping up, limited storage spaces, or experienced stove users who want serious heat in a doorstep-friendly delivery. A heavy, powerful log for steady fires and long evenings.

Hornbeam is one of the densest hardwoods available. Logs burn slowly and evenly once established, producing sustained heat rather than quick, showy flames.
This is not a quick-lighting wood. Hornbeam needs a strong kindling base or to be mixed with an easier-lighting log to get going. In return, it delivers powerful, consistent heat once fully alight.
Thanks to its density, hornbeam holds heat for long periods. Fewer reloads are needed, allowing the fire to tick over steadily without constant attention.
Packed in a woven sack maxi bag for easy handling and storage. Logs are naturally heavier and may be slightly larger than standard hardwood, reflecting the density of the wood. .
How big is a bag of hornbeam logs?
A hornbeam maxi bag is roughly equivalent to a 60-litre sack of logs. It’s smaller than a builders bag but still provides enough dense hardwood for several long fires.
How long does a bag of hornbeam logs last?
Hornbeam burns very slowly. A 60L bag can last a week or more when used in the evenings. With daily use, expect several days of sustained heat from one bag.
Can I burn hornbeam logs in a stove or fireplace?
Yes. Kiln-dried hornbeam logs are suitable for wood-burning stoves, open fireplaces, fire pits, and chimineas. They perform best in stoves where consistent, long-lasting heat is required.
Is hornbeam better than birch logs?
For heat duration, yes. Hornbeam is much denser and burns longer, but it is harder to light. Birch lights easily and gives quick flames, while hornbeam is better once a fire is already established.
What’s the difference between a bag of logs and a builders bag?
A log bag (60L) is small enough to move and store easily. A builders or dumpy bag is close to a cubic metre and much heavier to handle.
Is hornbeam a good firewood?
Yes — hornbeam is one of the densest and longest-burning hardwoods available. It delivers powerful, steady heat for extended periods, making it ideal for long fires rather than quick, short burns.
